The Problem of Prayerlessness

We have a wrong concept of what prayer is. Prayer in its basic, simple,  foundational definition is “a conversation with God.” Not hard to understand, is it? So, why do we have such a hard time embracing this amazing privilege and interacting with God?

How hard would it be to schedule an appointment with President Biden or the leader of any nation in the world today? For an everyday, average person like me, it would be almost impossible. But down through the centuries, the Voice of God has been calling to His people:

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

(And yes, it is written in red!)

It’s an invitation to enter a relationship with the King of Kings! No appointment necessary!!! Just come as you are and let Him take your burdens and your heavy load upon His shoulders. And in return, He will give you rest.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in prayer.” Psalm 145:18

Maybe the problem is that we think we can do life just fine all by ourselves and we don’t need to depend on God. Here’s what God has to say about that in Matthew 5:3

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Or let’s check out the NLT version of that verse for a little more clarity:

God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

If you know you are needy and believe that God helps the needy, you will pray.  The heart that never talks to God is the heart that trusts in itself and not in the power of God.  Prayerlessness is unbelief. You don’t believe that you need God and you don’t believe that He is able to hear you and answer you!

But God is closer to you than you think!

Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:12-13

Again we see the invitation to come to Him, but come with your whole heart. God wants your whole heart to be engaged in this intimate relationship with Him called prayer. He is waiting for you! Won’t you come?

Come to the God of all creation, the One Who loves you unconditionally and has His Arms open wide for you!!!

He wants to have a personal, intimate relationship with you. Why? Because He loves you!!!

This is your opportunity to step out of time into eternity, into the Glory realm where nothing is impossible!

The problem of prayerlessness can be simply solved if you would just come.

    Thanks Jo.
This such an issue and a burden of my heart! The effectual fervent prayer of the Righteous avails much! This is why our flesh and satan doesn’t want us to prayer, especially corporately. Let us continue to conversate with our Father God. Love you Sheila
