Making the Kingdom of God our first priority and our only reality.

The Kingdom of God is the visible demonstration of the comprehensive rule and reign of God in every area of our lives and this visible demonstration must begin with our mindset—our thoughts, attitudes, and perspective about Who God is and our relationship with Him. In order to fulfill our Kingdom assignments in this earth realm, the concept of Kingdom must be embedded in the core of who we are! We must cultivate a Kingdom Mindset!!!

The term “kingdom” was prominent in the New Testament Scriptures

There has been a lot of discussion about and renewed interest in the Kingdom of God and its relevance in the lives of the believer. This term was prominent in the New Testament Scriptures:

  • The phrase “kingdom of God” is found 66 times in the New Testament.

  • The term kingdom  is found 154 times in the New Testament; 119 times in the four gospels.

  • Jesus used the term kingdom 93 times.

  • The Kingdom is to come on earth as it is in Heaven.

  • We are to seek the Kingdom first–make it our priority in life.

Kingdom was so important to our Lord that He taught about it almost exclusively in His ministry. He said that Kingdom should be our priority in our lives (Matthew 6:33). So what exactly is the Kingdom of God?

The concept of kingdom

In its simplest definition, the word kingdom means a king’s domain. It is a state or domain ruled by a king or queen in which that monarch has jurisdiction, including authority, power, and absolute control over the territory and its citizens.

In our democratic culture, it is hard for us to grasp this concept of anyone having that kind of power or authority over us. And as humans, it is our nature to strive for independence in order to be able to control our own destinies. Maybe that’s why so many of us struggle with the idea of our Lord Jesus as Lord. It’s easy to accept and embrace the Savior part, but the Lord part is not easily comprehended. And yet the Word of God plainly states that Jesus is our Lord.

Jesus is Lord and King

Lord in the Greek is kyrios: supreme in authority; owner; possessor; master.

Angels announced His arrival on earth:

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11

As believers, our first confession of faith was based on this truth:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

And eventually everyone and everything will acknowledge His Lordship:

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

Jesus declares His Kingship:

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to Me.” John 18:37

Jesus is the King!

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to [a]God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:15-17

Jesus is acknowledged as King of kings:

I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6:13-15

These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:14

Now out of His mouth goes a [c]sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:15-16

Jesus Christ is Lord and King, ruling Monarch over His Kingdom!

The King determines how His Kingdom operates

The Kingdom of God is a spiritual Kingdom which is a form of government in which the King, Jesus Christ is the ruling authority.

This government has citizens who are totally dependent upon the King and His government to provide for all of their needs.

They speak the Kingdom language.

They abide by the Kingdom laws and regulations.

They adapt to the Kingdom culture.

They use Kingdom currency.

They are educated according to Kingdom concepts.

They are soldiers in the Kingdom’s military.

They are the Kingdom church.

They broadcast and proclaim the Kingdom message.

They are to not only be citizens, but sons in the Kingdom family.

Kingdom Protocol

“This is a kingdom without borders and without time. To try and apply the rules, precepts, and writs of this world to this very unearthly kingdom would be similar to bringing a linebacker on a football field a horse and a polo stick, and instructing him to get on with the game. Neither the rules of this earth, nor its tools, govern God’s kingdom. As King, He determines how it is to operate.”

Tony Evans–The Kingdom Agenda

The Kingdom of God is here now!

“The problem of the world, and of many Christians, has not been simply refusing to acknowledge the possibility of such a kingdom, but failing to perceive that it exists right now, not in some far-off time or far-off place called heaven. This is so strange because Jesus spent virtually all of His earthly ministry telling people that the kingdom of God had come and then explaining its workings.

“For reasons that are beyond our comprehension, even we Christians missed it as we soaked up the good news of salvation, the fullness of the Holy Spirit, the fellowship of the church, and the future millennium. In fact, it is embarrassing today, as we begin to glimpse the core of what Jesus was doing, to note that practically everything He said pertained to the “kingdom.” For example, His first utterance in His public ministry, according to Matthew, was: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Each of the Gospel writers said it similarly. “The time has come,” Jesus declared, in essence. “The kingdom is here, and I’ve come to open it to you and to show you how it works.”

The Kingdom of God is here and now in each born-again believer. Now is the time for us to come into alignment with God’s divine plan of restoration by renewing our minds with the Truth of the Gospel of the Kingdom. We must each cultivate a Kingdom Mindset in order to carry out God’s mandate:

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Matthew 24:14
